The Strawberry Twins
We got home from a long weekend in Minneapolis/St. Paul today. We were looking for Strawberries and the local store hasn't stocked them since last summer, so we thought we'd take some time before we came home to go to a few pet shops in the Twin Cities. We sort of ended up doing a tour of Twin Cities Petcos. We planned to visit three that were more or less on the way (well, not really ON the way, but we didn't have to go hugely out of our way either) home.
After reaching Minnetonka (our last planned stop) and not finding any Strawberries we decided to stop at B&N to use the laptop and get directions to a few more (and I bought a map on account of me continually getting lost in the cities). We ended up visiting another one in Minneapolis and two Petcos in St. Paul (I think) before we found what we wanted.
We ended up getting two medium sized strawberry hermit crabs (and a little kritter keeper and some moss as a temporary housing unit until we got back to Fargo) and skipping the last Petco we had directions too (we found the interstate relatively soon after heading toward downtown). We named them Minne and Paul for Minneapolis/St. Paul.
Unfortunately when we got home the apartment was frigid. Not a good temp for the hermit crabs at all. We left the window air conditioner on low as it was supposed to be hot, but I wish I would have thought to get a timer for it so it wasn't on all the time. We lost one crab, though we aren't sure if it was because of the cold or not.
We decided that touring by pet shop was actually kind of fun, and we may do an entire vacation that way someday - you certainly get to some areas you wouldn't probably go to otherwise!
