Red Claw Crabs & Mrs Fiddler

Earlier this week one of the Red Claw crabs died, at first we suspected it was molting so we seperated it, but it was clear by the end of the day it was dead. That leaves us with one Red Claw crab and one 'mini-crab' fiddler crab (Mrs Fiddler) left in the 'true-crabs' tank.

Last night I thought we were down to one Red Claw crab. I was sitting on the sofa and as I looked around I saw a crab on top of Mrs Fiddler and her shell cracked open. I assumed it was the red claw crab eating Mrs Fiddler. Fortunatly when I checked again a few hours later Mrs Fiddler was still alive... and so was the remaining Red Claw.

I checked the crab remains and it turns out it was an intact exoskeleton of Mrs Fiddler. She molted! hurrah.

Also a quick update on the hermits, they are doing well, although one of the ruggies has now got two bent legs, I assume from a molt. He must have been leaning on something whilst molting. Doesn't seem to bother him in the slightest though.

Today its been really hot, so to cool down the crabbies I gave them a quick misting. They went crazy, everyone came out for some misting goodness. Seeing as everyone was up I decided to give them some fresh food. Some Crab Island flower food and some freeze dried crickets. I just checked about an hour ago and they were all fighting over the food, not that there is much left now mind you! Piggy crabbies!
