Here are some other resources
to learn more about land hermit crabs, or to provide them
with a better home! |
Forums
Hermit
Crab Association - This is the forum and web site of the Hermit
Crab Association, and is one of the best places on the web to
ask any questions you might have about hermit crabs, products
used in the care of hermit crabs, or even just to share what's
going on in your tank.
Epicurean
Hermit Forum - THE place to go to learn about the nutritional
needs of land hermit crabs, what commercial foods are best for
your crabs, or what fresh foods your crabs can eat.
Land
Hermit Crabs - This is the first hermit crab forum my husband
and I stumbled over when we first got our crabs, and it's another
good community to take your hermit crab questions to. I am a little
less enamored of their forum software, but it's certainly useable.

Web Sites
The
Crab Street Journal is an online zine dedicated to land hermit
crabs and their owners. They have some great articles, as well
as recipes formulated just for hermit crabs.
Hermit-Crabs.com
is a site run by the president of the Hermit Crab Association.
There is some very good information on keeping land hermit crabs
to be found there!
Crabby Talk
is a great photo blog dedicated to land hermit crabs!
IHaveCrabs.com
has a good species identification section.

Shopping
Naples
Sea Shell Company is a great place to get shells for your
hermit crabs, and is one of the only stores on the web that specifically
measures the openings on their shells to make it easier for hermit
crab owners to get exactly the shell size they need.
Pet
Discounters has great deals on hermit crab food, books, tank
decor and more! I've always been really happy with their shipping
times, and it is one of the only places on the web you can find
Gardner's Tree Crab food and The All Natural Hermit Crab Sourcebook,
two of my favorite hermit crab products.
Sea Shell
World is another place I've gotten shells for the hermit crabs.
Sometimes they're a little cheaper than Naples, it just depends.
It always pays to shop around!
Shell
Horizons is a bulk shell dealer. This is a great place to
get a LOT of shells on the cheap, but $50 is the minimum order,
so this works best if you go halves (or thirds, etc.) with a friend!
Doctors
Foster and Smith is a pet store run by two veterinarians,
so everything there comes vet recommended! While they don't have
a specific hermit crab section, a lot of the things in their reptile
section are hermit crab friendly!
Mountain
Rose Herbs is a great place to find organic ingredients to
make your own hermit crab foods.
