Aquarium Pharmaceuticals (API™) Tap Water Conditioner™

Hermit crab hobbyists highly recommend that all water given to land hermit crabs be dechlorinated using a water conditioning solution. This is important even if your main water source does not have added chorine, as a water conditioner will also neutralize heavy metals in the water.

There are a lot of water conditioners on the market, and choosing the right one can seem almost impossible. However, because most of them are geared to aquariums, they often contain ingredients which aid in the production of a slime coat in fish. While I've never seen scientific studies to back it up, many hobbyists claim that these substances are actually harmful to land hermit crabs (who don't naturally produce a slime coat at all). This drastically reduces the options available for the care of land hermit crabs. Fortunately Aquarium Pharmaceuticals' Tap Water Conditioner helps fill that void and provides an easy to use, safe water conditioner.

It comes in varying sized bottles, but even a small one will last a long, long time since you only ever use 1-3 drops per US gallon of water. I make up one-gallon batches in cheap plastic iced tea jugs and store it until it's used up.
