The All Natural Hermit Crab Sourcebook by Stacey Arenella and Summer Michaelson

The All Natural Hermit Crab Sourcebook is probably the most comprehensive and up to date book about hermit crabs I've ever read. The authors have taken great pains to offer fairly detailed care instructions, hobbyist-appropriate information on biology and crab behaviors, as well as putting together a cook book of recipes that make feeding your hermit crabs a healthy diet fun and easy.

There are very few things brought up by this book that should cause concern, however the authors' assertion that distilled and reverse osmosis water should not be used in hermit crab tanks is a very absolute take on a controversial subject. While I've never used distilled or reverse osmosis water, I've spoken to many hermit crab enthusiasts who do use them with no ill effects. The problem the authors see with distilled and reverse osmosis water is that the minerals have been removed from theme - however, since land hermit crabs are not a primarily marine species and do not live in the water most of their lives, I don't believe that the lack of trace nutrients and minerals in reverse osmosis and distilled waters will have an effect on the nutrition of pet land hermit crabs.

This book is self-published, so it is not available at large retailers like Petco or Amazon.com - it can currently be found here.
