T-Rex Forest Bed Expandable Substrate

Coconut fiber is a really wonderful substrate. Our crabs seem to prefer it to sand for molting, though they like seem to like sand better for digging and tunneling. It breaks down hermit crab waste, helps keep the crabitat humid, and can be used to grow real plants in your crabitat if desired. The downside to this substrate is that it's very messy and sticks to things. Due to this messiness, I prefer to keep the water and food dishes on another substrate (in our tank, sand).

The other downside to this substrate is its tendency to mold, but this can be greatly reduced by using salt water to rehydrate it.

Forest Bed is my favorite brand of coconut fiber substrate as every time we have gotten it, it has expanded quickly.
